Currency Converter
Convert an amount between roughly 30 currencies at the European Central Bank's reference rate, for today or any past date. Good for invoices, expense reports, and checking whether an exchange offer is reasonable.
Frequently asked questions
Where do the exchange rates come from?
From the Frankfurter API, which republishes the European Central Bank's daily reference rates. The ECB updates them once per working day around 16:00 Central European Time.
Will I get this exact rate at a bank or card terminal?
No. Reference rates are mid-market rates. Banks, card networks, and exchange offices add a spread or fee on top, typically between 0.3% and 5% depending on the provider. Treat the result here as the fair-value baseline you compare offers against.
Can I look up a rate for a past date?
Yes, pick a date and the converter uses the ECB reference rate from that day. Monthly averages are also available, which is what accountants often need for bookkeeping and invoices.
How many currencies are supported?
The ECB publishes reference rates for about 30 major currencies, including USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CHF, AUD, and CAD. Currencies outside that list are not available here.
